Health Education England (HEE) exists for one reason only: to support the delivery of excellent healthcare and health improvement to the patients and public of England by ensuring that the workforce of today and tomorrow has the right numbers, skills, values and behaviours, at the right time and in the right place.

London and South East Informatics

London and South East (LaSE) Informatics has two core functions:

  • providing business intelligence and data analytics services to internal and external customers.

The Role

As Junior BI Developer, you will be working within a team which develops systems and analytics to manage the training of over 20,000 junior doctors and their training placements in the NHS.  That involves tens of thousands of trainee movements each year. You will also support analysis of the wider LaSE NHS workforce through the extraction, transformation, querying and presentation of data.

You will work across LaSE’s full data management lifecycle, using BI and development tools to ingest data from multiple sources, transform the data to suit HEE's needs and automate routines to publish data extracts and reports to trainees, trusts, and internal teams.

Core duties and responsibilities for the role include:

  • working with BI and Systems Development colleagues to support the production of data transformation and publication processes
  • working with colleagues to undertake data mapping, data modelling and data quality exercises
  • working with colleagues to resolve ad-hoc data requests within defined time scales
  • proving administrative support to the Business Intelligence and Systems Development teams.

The above list is not intended to be exhaustive. You may be asked to carry out other duties appropriate to your level and skills.

The following skills will be essential for the role and will be tested at the interview stage:

  • an aptitude for working with technology
  • a good understanding of IT systems including Windows & MS Office
  • some exposure to databases and SQL
  • knowledge of one or more programming languages
  • an analytical approach to problem solving
  • the ability to devise inventive and creative solutions to problems
  • the ability to prioritise workload when working under pressure
  • the ability to communicate technical concepts to customers who are not informatics specialists.

 The Candidate
