An exciting opportunity has arisen for a recent graduate to join a graduate programme for a leading consultancy that delivers transport planning and highways & traffic engineering design services. Please read the information below and apply with your CV today!

The Company

This role will provide you with the opportunity to deliver projects from inception to construction. There are many stages in-between and many specialisms required to develop a project; from writing policies and strategies, to collection and analysis of baseline data, production of design options, complex computer modelling, detailed design, specification of materials, construction phasing etc. There is a long list of tasks required to move a project from “I think we need to improve this” to a finished product

This is in an exciting period as they have ambitious growth plans and are looking to expand the scope of services that they deliver. They have also secured a number of long-term contracts that provide the foundation for their growth plans. They need people to help them to achieve their growth targets and are keen to employ gifted and enthusiastic graduates at the beginning of their careers, who will benefit from the guidance and mentorship of experienced engineers and planners.

They will consider applicants from a wide range of disciplines and academic backgrounds for a wide range of roles, including (but not limited to) civil engineers, transport planners, urban and landscape designers, regeneration specialists, traffic engineers, AutoCAD specialists, traffic order makers, traffic modellers and development planners.

Specific experience in one or more of these areas is not a pre-requisite; they can provide the training and guidance needed for candidates with the right academic background and aptitude.

The Purpose of the Role

Will include but will not be limited to:

  • To assist in the delivery of a range of projects relating to one or more service offers including transportation planning, traffic engineering, highway design, public realm design, parking management or urban regeneration;
  • To work for and across service areas undertaking site surveys, analysing complex data, managing project tasks and preparing technical designs relating to the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects;
  • To act as team member for projects, delivering high-quality outputs to an agreed timescale and programme;
  • To actively pursue on the job and formal training opportunities that complement business needs and personal development plans;
  • To monitor personal and project workload and maintain high levels of utilisation.


  • Managing own time input to meet budgets;
  • Provide technical input to projects and deliver high-quality outputs;
  • Work closely with team members and other staff;
  • Adhere to Quality Assurance systems and procedures;
  • Manage health and safety of self in course of duties;
  • Respond to customer requests (internal and external) and ensure that their needs are met; and
  • Be flexible - carry out any duties as and when required to assist in all company operations.

The Candidate

Should be:

  • Analytical;
  • Self motivated;
  • Team worker;
  • Ability to work to deadlines;
  • Ability to communicate at all levels;
  • Excellent written skills;
  • Excellent numeracy skills;
  • Customer service skills;
  • Sound computer literacy (knowledge of using spreadsheets, Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and Outlook); and
  • Have an interest in transport and regeneration issues.


  • Any degree with a technical bias would be considered but preference will be given to degrees in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, Geography, Maths, Physics, Landscape Architecture,  Master Planning etc.; and
  • Willingness to work towards membership of a professional institution.

Knowledge – one or more of the following is desirable:

  • Knowledge of landscape design or urban realm design principles;
  • Understanding of needs and requirements of urban regeneration;
  • Understanding of transport related issues;
  • Understanding of highways engineering ;
  • Understanding of traffic and transportation design principles;
  • Understanding of traffic and highway legislation ;
  • Experience using AutoCAD or GIS systems;
  • Experience using specialist modelling software (academic or otherwise).
