Job Description:

The University of London maintains comprehensive records on the destinations of its graduates, e.g. into employment, further study, entrepreneurship etc. These large and comprehensive data sets are regularly interrogated and analysed for presentation to the public, colleges, government, employers etc. This position is for a 3-6 months internship in the Graduate Research Department to assist with the analysis and reporting of graduate destinations data.

Duties will include:

a) Ensuring the Graduate Research databases are working adequately for the needs of the department and its internal and external customers, including:

b) Analysis and manipulation of large amounts of complex data

c) Explaining the significance of reports to clients

d) Querying all aspects of graduate and course data using Structured Query Language (SQL) or equivalent

e) Importing data downloads from clients and other sources into the SQL database or equivalent.

f) Understanding and producing daily, weekly and custom management reports which are fit for purpose and monitor the progress of the DLHE collection

g) Maintaining excellent working relationships with internal and external customers is priority

Technical knowledge and skills required:

• Good first degree or equivalent preferably in a science, maths, statistics or IT-based subject

• High standard of IT literacy

• Strong SQL server knowledge (essential)

• Strong knowledge of databases

• Strong knowledge of spreadsheets

• Strong Knowledge of statistical reporting software

• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook

Experience:

• Some experience of data management and reporting from large amounts of data would be an advantage

• Some level of experience or interest in contributing to the overall digital efficiency of the department with innovative ideas and approach

• Strong attention to detail

• Ability to multi-task and work with a flexible approach

• Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills

• Ability to work well with others as part of a team with customer focus primary
