The Company

Total Gas & Power Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Total Group responsible for energy Marketing and Trading activities in the UK.  We supply natural gas to many thousands of sites across the UK, and we are market leaders in the highly competitive I&C sector (by gas volume).  Based in the head office in Canary Wharf (London) the Trading division is responsible for optimising the purchase/sales portfolios of gas, electricity, CO2 emissions, coal, and LNG, via transactions (arbitrage, balancing and hedging) in all recognised markets worldwide, in compliance with Group trading guidelines. Alongside the traders we have risk analysts, shipping and chartering operators and gas and power schedulers.

Job Description

A Junior Business (Applications) Analyst is required for a period of 12 months to carry out all Business Applications related tasks.

  • This role is in a fast-paced and complex Trading environment with commercial deadlines requiring 24/7 responsiveness and you will be managing/implementing IT solutions in accordance with the Business needs, in coherence with the IT policies and objectives, and provide 2nd and 3rd level support on implemented solutions/applications.

    Business Analysis

  • Assist the Business in the definition and formalisation of the functional scope of their requirements
  • Assist the Business for the choice of the best technical solution to meet their requirements with the assistance of internal or external expertise
  • Contribute to the documentation of functional and technical specs, taking into account security and availability considerations
  • Applications Integration & implementation
  • Ensure, in accordance with the processes in place, the controlled integration of the solutions/applications via extensive testing, specifically taking care about compatibility, technical and functional testing (UAT) and relating documentation
  • Coordinate with the IS Delivery team the deployment of the solution with the assistance of the required resources, including DR and ongoing supporting environment (dev., test/integration, maintenance) when applicable
  • Provide/ensure provision of solution documentation according to the templates in place
  • Ensure that business requirements are met within time and budget constraints and according to internal quality and IT practices
  • Assist in managing the internal and/or external resources throughout the lifecycle of the projects
  • Ensure communications with the Trading System and Development departments
  • Help in providing training and support to the IT Support team as well as support documentation
  • Applications support and Exploitation
  • Assist in managing/implementing the transport to production of migrations or upgrades of existing applications under scope of responsibility in coordination with the required internal or external resources and affected users and according to business constraints
  • Maintain the standby and DR instances (when applicable) of the applications/solutions up to date and duly documented
  • Ensure up to date documentation of the overall applications portfolio

Candidate profile

The successful candidate will be:

  • Studying towards Computer Systems Engineering/BSc Engineering in Information & Communication Technologies
  • An interest in and capacity to build a solid understanding of the Energy Trading business and constraints as well as overall corporate functions’ processes
  • Personal skills
  • Organisation and planning abilities, ability to identify deadlines and work under pressure
  • Good communication skills, ability to listen and analyse
  • General curiosity on technical and business matters and open-mindedness
  • Technical skills
  • Good functional and technical knowledge of IS: concepts, norms, technologies and market standards
  • Technical knowledge of Information Systems in the desktop, client/server systems with understanding in systems design, architecture and security and General IT development understanding.
  • Good technical understanding of the overall Gas & Power IT systems
