The Role

  • Report to the Corporate – IT Development - Software Project Manager – TGPL.
  • The position is located in London, Canary Wharf.
  • The holder will participate in the delivery of software development projects used throughout the Gas & Power Trading perimeter (London, Houston, Singapore) and affecting all business functions
  • The holder will participate and assist in different projects at various stages showing ownership and responsibility for those projects allocated.
  • The holder will be frequently communicating with Trading Systems team members, other co-developers, business users, business analysts and quantitative analysts to ensure his work is consistent with business expectations and the trading software roadmap.
  • Collect Business requirements/specifications and propose workable, scalable and sustainable designs for the software application to be developed
  • Build applications according to agreed specifications and designs following coding standards, architectural design approaches and technology choices in place
  • Design testing strategies to ensure software quality
  • Coordinate with relevant users, business analysts and Business Application team the required user acceptance for validation of development
  • Provide required documentation and assistance for the Live implementation and handover support to Business Application team, following the defined processes in place
  • Ensure ongoing maintenance and evolution of applications under the responsibility of the IT Development team including 3rd line support in case of failure and required changes in a timely manner
  • Propose new approaches, technologies and concepts for review to improve development capabilities or team performance

Total Gas & Power Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Total Group responsible for energy Marketing and Trading activities in the UK.  We supply natural gas to many thousands of sites across the UK, and we are market leaders in the highly competitive I&C sector (by gas volume).  Based in the head office in Canary Wharf (London) the Trading division is responsible for optimising the purchase/sales portfolios of gas, electricity, CO2 emissions, coal, and LNG, via transactions (arbitrage, balancing and hedging) in all recognised markets worldwide, in compliance with Group trading guidelines. Alongside the traders we have risk analysts, shipping and chartering operators and gas and power schedulers.

Candidate profile           

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Studying Science/IT/Computing discipline.
  • Exposure in software design and development with Microsoft technologies and related tools; .Net, C#, Winforms, WPF, Silverlight, WCF Services, SOA and MVVM architectures, MS Visual Studio, MS TFS, Oracle DB 9/10/11g, SQLServer, ASP.NET, Web technologies, OO Design, UML Modelling, Requirements Analysis.
  • Knowledge of financial software and trading concepts is desirable.
  • High level of creativity, innovation, good communication skills, adaptability, flexibility in working within a team and able to work under pressure when needed.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and a willingness to share technical knowledge with colleagues
  • Fluent in English, French beneficial.
