Hours: Full-time 37.5 per week

Nesta’s Research, Policy & Analysis team is looking for an intern to support our innovation policy activity. Working alongside others in the innovation policy team, your role will be to help us develop and deliver our programme of policy work, looking at how innovation can fuel the conditions for UK growth in a way that benefits everyone . This will involve a mixture of background research and analysis, tracking the key policy debates, and helping us communicate our research findings to a broad audience. It will require rapid analysis of complex ideas, both in order to support our current projects in development and in order to distill our key messages, helping us to target our efforts in a way that achieves greatest impact.

Your role will involve interpreting research and writing summaries of topics, logistical planning for workshops and events, and publicising research to a range of audiences including policymakers and the media.

The Role

  • Summarising Nesta’s policy and research work to produce succinct policy briefings for internal and external use
  • Proactively keeping abreast of current policy debates and using judgement to highlight potential policy areas where Nesta could offer a contribution
  • Supporting other members of the innovation policy team in their policy and research projects, including background research and data collection

This would suit a recent graduate, who would like to learn more about innovation and economic growth whilst developing their policy communication skills.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Excellent degree in an economic development, innovation policy, science or technology-related subject
  • Understanding of the UK political system
  • Experience of working in a busy environment with the proven ability to work under pressure
  • An interest in innovation policy, technology and economic development
  • An interest in evidence-based policy development and communication
  • Excellent project management skills and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Organised and methodical approach to task completion including good planning, prioritisation and time management skills
  • Able to research and work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a clear writing style
  • IT literate (proficient with Excel, PowerPoint & Word and online research tools)
