Recruitment has opened for a 6-month full-time paid Internship role with C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. The successful intern is expected to start in November 2017 and will be based in their London Office.

The Company

The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, now in its 12th year, connects more than 90 of the world’s greatest cities which have committed to tackling climate change. We bring mayors from around the world together to learn from each other in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating resilient, sustainable and low carbon cities. C40 cities represent more than 650 million urban citizens and their economies account for 25% of global GDP. Our recent ‘Deadline 2020’ report sets out the critical role that the world’s major cities have to play in delivering the historic Paris Agreement to prevent catastrophic climate change.

C40’s growing team of 100+ staff is headquartered in London, with offices in New York, Rio de Janeiro, Copenhagen, Beijing and Paris, and individual staff based across 25+ different locations. C40 has an operating budget of c.$25m per year and is primarily funded through the generous support of philanthropic foundations.

The strategic direction of the organization is determined by an elected Steering Committee of C40 mayors, which is chaired by the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo. Three-term Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg serves as President of the Board of Directors, which is responsible for operational oversight. An eight person management team, led by Executive Director, Mark Watts, leads the day-to-day management of C40.

The Role

The successful intern will support the Business Data and Innovation Team and facilitate quality delivery of key C40 priorities. If selected, working a 40-hour week, s/he will have the opportunity to develop skills and understanding in a range of subject areas, gaining valuable experience working with international colleagues in a fast-paced and exciting global organization. S/he will help the team in areas of work relating to the delivery of programs to bring cities and the private sector together in tackling climate change mitigation challenges. The successful applicant will also be involved in supporting the annual process by which the cities report their climate actions to us on the global CDP data platform.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Support the city engagement associated with the NUMA C40 DataCity Program, which brings together start-ups and large corporations to rapidly develop scalable climate solutions;
  • Support the future delivery of the City Solutions Platform which is a multi-partner endeavour to deliver a global hub that brings together city climate challenges with the private sector and academic solutions providers;
  • Support the building of a comprehensive database of tech hubs and accelerators in our cities;
  • Support the city reporting process / lifecycle
Person Specification
  • An understanding of how data and technology can be deployed in rapidly developing innovative solutions;
  • Awareness of climate change and the challenges associated with mitigation action at City level;
  • Some knowledge of the start-up eco-system would be beneficial;
  • A positive and solution focused outlook;
  • Great organizational skills;
  • Strong people skills;
  • Confident communicator;
