An exciting opportunity has arisen for a six month Graduate Internships, working as a Project Officer in the Gateway & Welfare Contracts & Commissioning service in Croydon Council. Gateway & Welfare is a new division set up to support individuals and families affected by Welfare Reform, and provide a holistic approach to finding sustainable solution to people having financial and housing stability. The opportunity is to help support the delivery of innovative cross-organisation projects to provide housing solutions for rough sleepers.

The Role

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to gain an unrivalled insight into a career in project management in a large organisation.

The council has commissioned a significant number of partners to delivery services across Croydon, and are looking for creative solutions to address rough sleeping, such as the creation of an all year shelter. We are looking to recruit a professional, enthusiastic and hardworking Project Officer to support this work.

The roles have no limits on the level of involvement and ownership the successful candidate would be able to achieve, so would suit people with commitment, enthusiasm, flexibility, ability to learn quickly and with an abundance of talent. You will be working alongside the Gateway & Welfare Contract & Commissioning Manager and our delivery partners, providing an excellent opportunity to develop business change skills for the public sector.  The role will involve tasks such as:

Shelter Project

  • Support a project to implement an all-year shelter by 31/3/18 
  • Coordinate a project plan
  • Research good practice (involves liaising with Housing Justice, coordinating visits to other shelters etc.)
  • Support recruitment of paid staff to support shelter
  • Support the development of protocols and processes between partners
  • Liaise with internal partners (planning/parking)
  • Support the shelter partnership to increase volunteer base
  • Report on the above

Rapid pathway from the streets Project

  • Monitor delivery of the pathway with stakeholders/partners
  • Suggest/implement improvements

CRZero 2020 (borough-wide street homeless) Project

  • Develop and deliver council actions in CR Zero 2020 action plan
  • Attend CR Zero steering and community solutions group and feedback
  • Establish and coordinate a rough sleeping forum (see attached)

The Candidate

The candidate will need to be able to demonstrate a strong project skills. Work experience in projects or partnership working is desirable.

Key requirements:

  • Minimum 2.1 undergraduate degree
  • Ideally experienced with MS package
  • Strong people skills
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • An ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences
  • Ability to work and deliver within a project structure.
  • Time management and prioritisation skills are highly important along with a strong attention to detail.
  • An understanding of project management is desirable.
